Reimbursement dollars have increased and now align with the time and resources taken to support fat grafting in breast reconstruction.
Fat grafting to the breast has now moved from a flat rate to a volume-based reimbursement scale. Under these new guidelines, the more fat transferred to the breast, the more physician reimbursement.
CPT Codes for fat grafting in breast reconstruction has been updated to:
15771 - Grafting of autologous fat harvested by liposuction technique to trunk, breasts, scalp, arms, and/or legs; 50cc or less injectate
15772 Each additional 50cc injectate, or part thereof (list separately, in addition to code for primary procedure); [Use 15772 in conjunction with 15771]
These new codes can be billed in addition to all other procedural codes used in breast reconstruction.
